Metadata and ontologies for organizing students’ memories and learning: standards and convergence models for context awareness

Este artículo trata de las ontologías que sirven para la comprensión en contexto y la Gestión de la Información Personal (PIM)y su aplicabilidad al proyecto Memex Metadata(M2). M2 es un proyecto de investigación de la Universidad de Carolina del Norte en Chapel Hill para mejorar la memoria digital de los alumnos utilizando tablet PC, la tecnología SenseCam de Microsoft y otras tecnologías móviles(p.ej. un dispositivo de GPS) para capturar el contexto del aprendizaje. Este artículo presenta el proyecto M2, dicute el concepto de los portafolios digitales en las actuales tendencias educativas, relacionándolos con las tecnologías emergentes, revisa las ontologías relevantes y su relación con el proyecto CAF (Context Awareness Framework), y concluye identificando las líneas de investigación futuras.This paper focuses on ontologies supporting context awareness and Personal Information Management (PIM) and their applicability in Memex Metadata (M2) project. M2 is a research project of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to improve student digital memories using the tablet PC, Microsoft’s SenseCam technology, and other mobile technologies (e.g., a GPS device) to capture context. The M2 project offers new opportunities studying students’ learning with digital technologies. This paper introduces the M2 project; discusses E-portfolios and current educational trends related to pervasive computing; reviews relevant ontologies and their relationship to the projects’ CAF (context awareness framework), and concludes by identifying future research directions

La tejeduría indígena en la Patagonia meridional argentina. Análisis de las razones de su adopción por los aónik’enk y planteamiento de una nueva propuesta explicativa

First, we analyze the assumptions of the current hypotheses on the reasons why Aónik’enk (Southern Argentinean Patagonia) took the weaving. Following these assumptions are compared with historical empirical data. This allows to conclude that they cannot be extended to all Aónik’enk groups. In search of alternative hypotheses, a study of textiles made and used by these groups using historical data, ethnographic and archaeological is performed. From these results we propose the adoption of a symbolic perspective to overcome the material determinism of the current hypotheses and make satisfactory explanations about it.Partiendo del análisis de las hipótesis vigentes sobre las razones por las cuales los aónik’enk (Patagonia meridional argentina) adoptaron la tejeduría, se cotejan a continuación esas hipótesis con información empírica histórica, lo que permite concluir que las mismas no se pueden hacer extensivas a todas las agrupaciones aónik’enk. En búsqueda de hipótesis alternativas se realiza un estudio de los textiles que confeccionaron y usaron esas agrupaciones empleando información histórica, etnográfica y arqueológica. A partir de esos resultados se propone la adopción de una perspectiva simbólica que permita superar el determinismo material de las hipótesis actuales y formular explicaciones satisfactorias al respecto

Experiencias y Significados asociados a la idea de movilidad social en el relato de doce familias floridanas

La primera y segunda sección de esta tesis presentan el problema de investigación y las preguntas que guían el estudio. La tercera sección la constituye el marco metodológico que describe las decisiones llevadas a cabo, el origen de los datos, las formas de análisis y una presentación general de los casos. La cuarta sección corresponde al marco teórico que discute los límites y posibilidades para entender la movilidad social y su relación con procesos estructurales y subjetivos. Community-oriented Service-Learning: A university experience for preventing cannabis abuse in vulnerable adolescents and young people

Learning integrated into community action promotes a more active citizenry. More specifically, service-learning (S-L) embedded into higher education can represent a big challenge yet also an opportunity to involve the whole university community in social and community development. This paper addresses this teaching method by identifiying and reviewing the different components that define S-L, that is: civic engagement, social responsibility, civic education, partnership, and reflection. The ways in which S-L can be introduced into the curriculum are explained, through detailing experiences already carried out in the teaching of psychology. Current available data on its efficacy in university education are analyzed. The focus now turns to a university experience involving Community Psychology students across Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. During this experience, students on both programmes make their final-year projects to develop a prevention resource aimed at young people at high risk of problematic cannabis use. Ultimately, this program not only teaches students the principles of Community Psychology but also give them an opportunity to put them into practice

Information Policies in Spain: Towards the New “Information Society”

The concept of a society based on information and knowledge is becoming the norm in every country, including Spain. The need to have well-designed information policies that allow us to come to terms with the new upsurge of media, technology and services that has taken place in our society is discussed first. Information policies required by these changes in society have been implemented in Spain and are described in relation to the new challenges of the “Society of Knowledge.” Similarly, the background and past efforts made in the field of information policy in Spain are analysed, along with the latest government projects that comprise an attempt to get this country to form part of the “Information Society” with the help of the supra-national information policy of the European Union
